Okay, you got me. In the way that makes you individually happy and fulfilled, while not directly adversely affecting anyone else. Someone doing drugs by themselves doesn't directly hurt anyone else.
That doesn't make it any less stupid. There is no way to make self-harm okay. None.

And by the way, you just established meaning for our existence. You established a purpose. "Do what makes you happy as long as it doesn't hurt others." You just helped my argument. Because that's what I say. That's what I have surmised to be our purpose. Not an explicit, objective purposeβ€”one I'm imposing, obviously.
Someone enjoying their lives isn't stupid. And that's not really a "purpose" so much as a philosophy.

And what philosophy is is a description of reality. There are good descriptions of reality, and there are bad descriptions of reality, but the idea is, that's what we're doing. You build purpose off of your philosophy. If a machine is broken, either fix it, or build a new machine. Basic stuff like that.

Enjoying your life, if that's all you value, is hedonistic (which I use as a pejorative), selfish, and egocentric. Risking your own life to experience some frivolous pleasure is infinitely stupid, and you deserve whatever negative happens to you if it does happen to you. You gamble your money, you should expect to lose. In fact, let's not gamble at all.

The pleasures I enjoy are simple with no real risk involved. I play games from time to time, or maybe I'll write a short story. These things give me pleasure, but there's relatively zero risk of me harming myself. If your idea of fun IS having that risk, I call you an idiot. Unless your idea of fun is getting hurt, which, that's still stupid, but I actually think that's even less stupid than someone who's willing to take a risk.

There is no objective way to make self harm okay nor is they any objective way to make it wrong. Just as 'we' just are, so are our actions and the influence they have. There is no inherent meaning to any of it.

If you can impose your view on things then so can Second Class and neither is greater than the other, in the end. Go ahead and tell him that he has no way to justify his actions. Unless you have some kind of influence over him, it changes nothing, at least, outside of whatever sort of satisfaction it may give you.

Why do you use hedonism as a negative word? It's not an inherently bad thing, it's just about priorities. Hedonism isn't "my enjoyment and relaxation is the most important thing in the world", it's simply putting your enjoyment as a real, attainable priority. If my friend was drowning beside me and I was watching TV, would I, as a hedonist, just keep watching TV because it's more pleasurable than doing the work of saving my friend? Of course not, that's idiotic. There's certainly some selfishness involved in a hedonistic lifestyle, but that's okay. As humans, we're meant to be selfish. Our life is ours, not anyone else's.

And can you please tell me how taking risks or damaging your body with substances from time to time is stupid? I take it you mean "stupid" in the sense of intelligence, which is just dumb. Countless studies have shown that the more intelligent you are, the more likely you are to experiment with drugs. I'll use the oft-repeated example of Carl Sagan to back up the fact that you can do drugs, take risks, and still be smart and successful. Just because you can find pleasure in the things you like, doesn't mean everyone can. If anything, demanding that everyone conform to your leisurely activities is the ego-centric idea here.

No. I mean "stupid" in the sense that if you do something inadvisable or risky, I'm gonna call you on it. I'm gonna browbeat you, because it's a stupid thing to do, regardless of how actually intelligent or successful you may be. The Carl Sagan shit is just idiotic. I make analogies all the fucking time; most of them involve death, and every single time, some cunt has to come by and say something stupid like, "Wow, I can't believe you're going to compare that to murder." And use that as an argument against me. But it's okay for you to compare yourself to Carl Sagan, right. A scientist who probably had an extensive knowledge of not only the drugs themselves, but also of his own physiology? You know nothing about drugs or your own body. You say you know "just enough". Well, "just enough" for you isn't "just enough" for any rational, intelligent human being.

Yes, because before you do anything, you need to extensively understand the precise details and every miniscule effect it may have. Before you have a glass of water, you need to know how every organ in your body will react to the water, and the atomic physiology of every chemical that makes it up, right?

You can't deny it would be an intelligent, advisable thing to do. But water? Why would we do it for water. We've been drinking water ever since humanity has been a thing. We know what it does, and we know what it HAS done for people for millennia.

Hundreds of new strains of drugs are developed every year, most of them unbeknownst to us. Comparing a product that everchanges and literally alters how your FUCKING BRAIN WORKS to water, something that hasn't proven itself to be harmful for... basically all time, is ridiculous. It refutes itself.

The same thing with marijuana. I know that the herb is harmless, I don't need to know why it's harmless.

This started about Carl Sagan's use of weed. As for the other drugs, I research them heavily when it comes to safety. I don't need to know what it's doing on a physiological level if I just know what's a safe dosage to take. Thinking that you need to know any more than that to be a responsible drug user is idiotic.
