That's cuz instead of a vowel you're taking a whole consonant out with corn.

Make sure you're saying COL-a-nel not CAL-a-nel.

When I was a kid reading about wars and such, I always thought it was funny that the top leaders sounded like they all had some sort of odd bowel movement.
