as far as i know, it's rap music that people only listen to "ironically"
whatever that even means

like, they don't actually like it--they just pretend to, because ________________. (fill in the blank)

why would someone waste time listening to music they don't actually enjoy

idk..

well, especially in the case of tyler earl and OF in general. their music is seen as accessible to people outside of the traditional rap demographic.

almost like baby's first _________

Meme rap focuses more on the artist's reputation and how their fans are more than the actual music itself

For myself, it's about the contrast between enjoyable and lamentable aspects of some media that rely heavily on reference.
For example, I like things like this ironically

YouTube

because it makes satirical comment on anime tropes; I think it's humorous that way. Not to mention the character I identify with most in this show religiously worships this idol, which is both hilarious and tragic.

People who don't get the reference don't really understand it because they don't have investment in the joke.
It's like if a critic watched Birdemic without knowing it was intentionally awful, they'd wonder why people even bothered watching the movie.
