Swiping wears down the strip on the card and can render it useless if the card is barely bent, like mine. Chips are also a lot more secure.

i got a card that has one, ive only used it like 4 times. not very many places around here have the chip readers (or ones that work).

The only difference between chip/pin and the cards with the strip is inserting or swiping

No, we've always used PINs.

We recently introduced a new type of card that uses a microchip that gets inserted into a terminal instead of swiping a magnetic strip.

Mine has literally never worked though.

I remember using those things when I went to Canada earlier this year.

My job allegedly has them but they're not in use yet, for unknown reasons. Folks keep asking all the time.

bank card, I did.
credit card, I did not. You're supposed to be able to provide a valid ID with a matching name to the card. Almost nobody asks to see one though.
