Buying a car: new vs used vs lease

Having a hard time deciding what route to go. I have a job that pays decently but I also have some loans to pay off.

I know a lot of you are young, but you also know more about cars than I do. Just looking for some advice from personal experience.

I see no reason at all to lease. The mileage restrictions alone are a total turn off by themselves. Then there's the "no, you can't put that part on there" clauses and legal crap...

I prefer actually owning cars. Leasing is good if you don't like caring about your vehicle and are okay with always having a car payment. Buying used has its risks but if it turns out good you won't regret it. Buying used is the best if you have the money and are looking to have a long-term commitment with the vehicle. Also buying used and new gives you the ability to always sell later on.

Buying a new car is the worst investment ever, the price of new cars depreciate very quickly. Buy a slightly used car. In regards to leasing I wouldn't really be able to help you out.

I've pretty much eliminated leasing as an option, I was just considering it for a year until some of my loans are gone.

I don't really see it as an investment for exactly that reason. It's a necessary expenditure for life, and with buying used my concern is that it will depreciate significantly faster because of multiple owners and all that. But the lower cost is appealing.

Eeh, if you're even considering a new car, chances are the used ones you're gonna be looking at aren't old enough to run through three or four owners, right? Depending on how long you plan on keeping the car, new will probably depreciate at a higher rate.

Used is almost always the best way to go when you're younger (as in <40). As long as you aren't getting something that's been run into the ground. You obviously want something that's been taken care of and won't cost you a lot in maintenance.

Brand new is expensive as fuck, and leasing is just wasting money.

Mine's a 2011 and was still pretty cheap all things considered. 2 prior owners. Very low miles. So there's good cars out there if you look for them.

I'm not sure I would EVER buy a brand new car. Maybe a 2 year-old, lightly used car, but probably never new new. Leasing also seems like a silly investment.

If you really want a new car down the road, buy something used but relatively nice for now. Pocket the difference and save it up for maybe 5 years from now to get what you really want.

Leasing is fucking idiotic, and buying Used is good if you get someone who doesn't treat their car like shit. Overall the New option is great, but you have to haggle and push a bit to get a decent price.
