So I am making a trip to Reno during valentines weekend to spend time with a lady friend that I have not seen since I was taking classes at Stanford with her back in 2013. So I have my flight booked and everything. Now the only problem is the Hotel. Since I am not yet 21 I have read that at certain hotels there can be issues with getting a room. I also do not yet have a credit card in my name, a friend would be paying for me as a birthday present. This is like my first trip out of state by myself so I am wondering a lot of things about this. Does a person need to have a credit card in their name to check into a hotel? Is there any issue with not having the said credit card with me when I check in? I will of course be calling up tomorrow and clarifying some things but just seeing if you guys have any experience with this stuff.

I'd reccommend you bring 5000% additional money on top of your travel funds, as you're literally satan over there if you don't tip after everything.

I can't help you with hotels, but know that you'll be well off when you get rejected for a vacancy and tip the hotel manager for the privilidge of getting rejected so that he doesn't call the gang of mexicans out back on the other side of the hotel.

Oh no I mean I do live in America and I know how much tipping is needed but thank you anyway!

I took a few classes there a few years ago but I am not really seeking to go to college. Aced them all tho.

I booked hotels when I was under 21. It depends on the hotel. (I booked at Mariott)
Also you can use a debit card.
I haven't seen a lot about debit cards but I will ask tomorrow.

I was originally heading to NYC but it was just in general too expensive to have a legit good trip.

I did go with my family a few years ago though and it is one of my favorite places on the planet. I cannot remember the restaurant but a little bit from time square there is this place that makes the most amazing steak in the world.

There are at least 5 places I think it could be.

Me.

Reno can be cool, but Seattle is better in my opinion.

Or Portland.

And Pike's. And the Sound. And a lively day and night scene.

The hotel I stayed at was 21 and over so I can't help you OP. But when you're not spending time at Lake Tahoe I recommend going to Virginia City next to Reno. Lost of historical stuff if you're into that.

Yeah, fuck people who have to depend on tips cause their job won't even give them minimum wage.

Thanks for the suggestion I will be spending a lot of time just doing stuff with my friend but Tahoe is a must.

Also: book several months ahead of time. You'll save more money.
I originally was not planning on going I was just going to go out with friends on my birthday but pretty much everyone had to cancel on me on the day so I was just like fuck it i'm going to get my tattoo in Denver and then going to Reno to chill.

I remember it being a bit more dark lit, like sort of a candle romantic vibe.

Depends on the time of day.

Unfortunately that describes most steakhouses.

If you can. Take the road that goes all the way around Tahoe. It cuts into California a little bit and the area is called Norden.

Spoiler

I highly recommend it the lake there is gorgeous with lots of rocks to climb on. The road that wraps around Tahoe took me 6 hours to get through but is absolutely worth it.

Off topic here, but one of the biggest differences I'm noticing between you and I as far as the homeless situation goes is that I didn't get myself into any debt or make stupid financial decisions. If I didn't have money for something, I didn't buy it. No loans, no credit cards, nothing. The only people I owe are people who did me favors (give me a couch to crash on, take me to lunch, pick me up when I couldn't use the bus, etc), and they just want me to pay if forward someday.
Actually my mother.maxed most of mine out on hotel rooms and the rest of my debt comes from early termination fees from my last apartment and medical bills.

The last I maxed out bailing myself out of jail, for something I really didn't do in the first place.

I have by no means been living frivolously, in fact I can't remember the last time I bought something other than gas or food.
