World War Z. Fantastic book. I love the style of being interviews with survivors, you can just hop in anywhere and pick it up.

I've also read the Fall of Reach trilogy a fair few times, too. Well, I've also read Ghosts of Onyx and Contact Harvest a lot, too.

In general, though, I don't tend to reread books. I prefer to read new ones.

Yep, got it at christmas I think but I've been busy with the dune series up until now. Finished all of the original dune books about two weeks ago I think.

It's very well written, kinda surprised me how easily I fell into it.

The dune series could be a little heavy at times, it takes a lot for me to put down a book because I'm too tired to actually read/understand it and they managed it a few times. Good books though, thoroughly enjoyed the God-Emperor of Dune and seeing how the author mixed his ecologist background with the philosophical ones to make 'the long view' a central theme to the whole series.

I'm about halfway through Ender's Game but I have seen the film so I think that's probably going to mess with reading it for the first time but either way it's a great look at smart-bastard children and how they deal with the world.

It's actually a prequel to Speaker for the Dead, so Orson Scott Card gets a lot of credit for making Ender incredibly clever, without giving him any ability to surmise the future.

This allows him to be surprised by plot twists, but also very good at weeding out deceit, which turns out to be his greatest failure.

It's a great dichotomy that defines an extremely classic tragedy. His greatest strength is his insight, and his greatest downfall is his failure to use it.

It's kind of a shame that the movie gave away the surprise for you, but I think it was okay in that sense. I'm sure the Peter/Valentine stuff was weird for you since it was omitted from the movie. I think Asa Butterfield did a decent job playing Ender, but all of the other characters weren't very accurate.

I keep forgetting to read Dune, and I'm pretty sure you've recommended it to me before. I'll put it on the list.

The peter/valentine stuff has kinda just kicked off with Locke/Demosthenes and it was a biiiiiiiiiit of a stretch to me how quickly and neatly they seemed to achieve their aims (in progress so keeping it vague for spoilers) but it's intriguing all the same.

Yeah I pretty much shill for dune in every book thread these days, kind of a shame he died before finishing the plotlines post-tyrant but the 'main' story around the kwisatz haderach was at least completed and that's the bit that interested me the most.

I only read non-fiction, which is typically boring. I find the books most enjoyable to read though are historical - for me. Currently going through Guns, Germs, and Steel right now.

Keep in mind it was written before the internet became big, so the idea that people could really change the world through forums and blogs was a realistic ideal. But yeah, they don't seem to encounter the struggles that Ender does, and it's one of the weaker aspects of the book. I think you'll find the ending more compelling than in the movie; the whole thing felt rushed, and they kept giving it away by showing a huge countdown to the big fight. And it basically left out great characters like Bean and Petra, turning them into boring sidekicks.

I've read Dune twice now, will probably go for another read of it after I finish the God Emperor trilogy.

I loved House of the Scorpion when I was younger though. Probably read it a dozen times.
