The keyboard/mouse and two of the monitors were already there. All the parts for the computer plus the third monitor came out to a little less than $2k at the time. You could probably make the same build now for considerably less.

My uni setup, horribly wired but compact enough for a notepad for revision and notetaking, and headphones to block out the noise of nextdoors' houseparties and the fans of the laptop when it's at full spin.

Rounds up to about £900 if you count the Laptop, the speakers, the headset and a cheapy mouse. Oh, and a $1 mousepad.
