Has cryptocurrency gone too far?

Burger King has launched it's own cryptocurrency.

According to New York Magazine (via local Russian news reports), the Russian subdivision of Burger King has launched its own cryptocurrency, aptly called “Whoppercoin.

The Whoppercoin launched in tandem with a new loyalty program. For each Whopper burger customers purchase, they'll receive one Whoppercoin in a special cryptocurrency wallet. While the coins’ wider use is unclear, some reports suggest that the Whoppercoin will be accepted as payment at Burger Kings across Russia.

What's next? Walmartbucks?

So they're giving loyalty bucks? Is this an actual cryptocurrency? Sportsclips gives me a punch card and puts a hole in it every time I get my hair cut. The sixth one is free. I can get the card punched at any location and redeem the card at any location. Can my card be considered currency?

WalMart has its own currency, no?

If other places start accepting it as a form of currency people can use for purchases than yes.
