a hear a lot of music enthusiasts talk about how wikipedia's genre listings are always inaccurate

for example, for NIN's genres, it lists:
Industrial rock
Alternative rock
Industrial metal
Dark ambient

this all sounds right to me, though i'm sure i'll hear, "NIN is not metal" from a bunch of people

but if that's the case, and you guys are the arbiters of music genres

why don't you edit the wikipedia pages when you see a factual discrepancy?
that's sort of what wikipedia is for, isn't it?

i'm not saying you gotta sit on your ass all day editing wikipedia pages
but just, whenever you see a flaw, why don't you take the second to fix it?

that way, we'll have a better and more accurate online encyclopedia

It is. They can experiment but it's always generally under the same genre they play under.
