Why is gravity such a weak force? It becomes strong for particles only at the Planck scale, around 1019 GeV, much above the electroweak scale (100 GeV, the energy scale dominating physics at low energies). Why are these scales so different from each other? What prevents quantities at the electroweak scale, such as the Higgs boson mass, from getting quantum corrections on the order of the Planck scale? Is the solution supersymmetry, extra dimensions, or just anthropic fine-tuning?

Although I work like mad day in and day out, my thoughts have a lot of time to wander and are free to go wherever they please. I've always been drawn to scientific aspects of the world, but the unexplained phenomenon the things that science cannot or has not explained yet, something you could label as meta physical I suppose, is just as fascinating. For example, when I was 3, my father got drunk, and decked my mother upside the jaw, and broke it. I had nightmares for four years afterward every night of that scene, replaying, over and over. I was terrified of him as a child.But, a few years back, I visited him. I held no grudge, and no anger, because as I grew older, I understood why. He was simply the product of his parents before him. He didn't know anything else. And, when he started out with my mother, things looked okay. But my mother has her own problems too. And so things went from being okay to being bad. And my father, being the product of the circumstance, had no other way out in his limited vision and his insecurities. He couldn't deal with the anger and other problems. So he lashed out.He's not the villain or nightmare I saw him as a child. He's a person, flawed as any, like me or you. What he did wasn't right, but in his shoes, that's all he knew, and all he had. I can't blame him for that.So, that's how I can be so empathic. Looking for the other side of the coin, the other story.
