...Well, yeah. A gun that can fire half a dozen bullets in one second is probably more likely to kill somebody than a gun that fires just one bullet per trigger-squeeze.

Debatable.

It's down to cartridge, recoil, weight of the firearm, and shooter ability.

There is a reason why they call it "Full Retard."

Yeah, but at the end of the day the odds of six pieces of burning-hot metal getting fired in rapid succession is more likely to kill someone than just one.

That would be a viable point to make if we were debating the effectiveness of muskets vs. LMG's.

It's designed to put a shitload of rounds downrange to make the enemy stay in cover so that your men can move forward and then kill the enemy with their semi-auto AR's.
Man, now I'm convinced that it's logical to sell them to ordinary civilians.
Brotip: your typical sandy hook dude is gonna do more damage with a semi-auto weapon than a full auto any day.

No. If you're in a crowd of people, and you want to kill as many as possible, you're going to do a lot more damage with a gun that shoots hundreds of rounds per minute for you. If you can only shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger, you're not going to do nearly the same level of damage as an LMG would.

You raise a valid point, but when you really think about it a bunch of bullets at once are more dangerous than just one bullet.

Yeah, but at the end of the day the odds of six pieces of burning-hot metal getting fired in rapid succession is more likely to kill someone than just one.

It depends entirely on the firearm, the cartridge, the recoil, and the shooter's ability.

Look at it this way. You have your street choppers. The Infamous Mac-10. It's an open bolt sub machine gun in 9mm Luger. It's incredibly light and short. It has a cyclic rate of 1250 rounds per minute. The bolt is easily the heaviest part of the gun past the magazine. When you pull the trigger the bolt is going to slam forward, hit the primer, fire the round and scream back to continue the cycle. You have the majority of the weight slamming into the back of the gun pulling the muzzle up. You may get one or two rounds off where you aim, but the rest are going to start going wild.

Different autos have different ways to compensate. The AR and AK platform each have a recoil spring in the butt stock to reduce that felt recoil and keep the muzzle on target, but it only does so much. The M1918 Thompson had a commentator that vented gas upward at the muzzle to keep it down and prevent muzzle rise.

Fact of the matter is, it's difficult to keep your muzzle on target when firing full auto. There is literally no practical reason to use it in any situation where you can take an extra half second to line up for a second shot with a semi-auto. Unless of course you are using a firearm with almost to muzzle climb or felt recoil.

Is there something wrong with enjoying the opportunity, though? Should someone be prevented from doing what they want?
Yes. If anyone could just buy a machine gun, the majority of purchases wouldn't be for shooting fucking beer cans, it would be for shooting humans.

That is insanely false and a baseless assumption proven wrong with history and experience. The overwhelming majority of firearm owners have killed NO ONE. People that want to kill are going to try, hindering responsible people will do nothing to help that, but just make things worse.
You don't need a fucking Scarface gun to protect your home. Buy a goddamn pistol.

But fast cars aren't made to do damage, they're made to go fast. Machine guns are actually designed for the purpose of killing people efficiently and quickly.

You're either slowly moving the gun around in a suppressive manner or you're wildly jerking around, missing fucking everything because the timing of the bullet going off and your swinging isn't in synch.

That just makes you sound paranoid, ironically. Sometimes it absolutely IS necessary, in cases of riots, for example. Dealing with a tank is an entirely separate issue.
Nah, riots? against the government? Sounds like something we'd be involved in rather than fighting off.

The standard for being "BTFOd" sure has dropped. I don't care how much experience you have with guns, fully automatic assault rifles simply have no place in a civilian's hands. End of story.
