Well that's fine but I also left out the detail that I generally don't watch a lot of movies anyway.

Youre right. I'm not doubting some of them are great movies either, but the Babadook is simply horrendous.

Never seen one that was genuinely frightening. Would be an experience, plus I can prove to my self I'm not such a soulless husk.

the visuals, the cinematography, the acting, the story
the fact that it doesn't have to rely on jump scares to create fear

the effects, despite the fact that they only had an itty budget

Pretty much. I make a point sometimes though. I guess it depends on the horror. I like well done horror. Not jump scares or gore-fests.
