Nah I live the mundane, overly repetitive  life of a cable guy instead.

People often get an hour for lunch so 8-5 minus lunch hour = 8 hours a day.

No I know, but it always used to be "workin 9-5".  What ever happened to that?

I'm one of those office shrimps, yes. Three year anniversary at IBM this month. Woo!
I love the dead Mondays and dead-er Fridays. E-Z money.

The idea of working a Mon-Fri 8-5 sitting at a cubicle all day sounds like nothing short of an absolute Hell.

>Have to wake up early to get ready
>Have to go to bed early every night so you get plenty of sleep
>Sitting doing the same repetitive work every day for 8 hours
>Do all your grocery shopping/fun stuff on Sat/Sun with everybody else so it's always packed
>Depending on where you live, commutes can be a nightmare

If there are people that like that kind of thing, more power to them; but I gotta say I'd rather blow my brains out than do any of that.

Yeah, it does suck a lot of the time. However:

> I get everything ready in the evening (lunch, backpack, clothes, breakfast prep (if I'm not going to have fucking cereal)) and literally wake up in the morning, get dressed, eat breakfast, and snooze on the couch until my second alarm.

> Yeah, I do have to sleep at like 10:30 or so. I have really bad insomnia on and off so it's a crap shoot if I get sleep anyway so...

> I sit at the same desk every day, but my work isn't monotonous. It's not data entry thank goodness.

> Pro tip: order non-perishables through Amazon and stop in for cold foods after work when you need them. It's literally 20 minutes every week or so.

I do sometimes envy people with physical jobs that can just shut their brain off as they work, though.

depends on if you’re a day or night person tbh. Once you get used to the routine it’s not so bad.

It's more the sleep schedule than anything. My circadian rhythm has always been more adjusted toward going to bed half way through the night and waking up late morning. I bid for second shift/PM shifts so I can the most sleep and function properly at work.

>Work 2:30PM-11PM
>Come home, feed the cat, have my own meal, get ready for the next day, usually finished sometime before 12
>Spend about an hour goofing off and go to bed at 1AM
>Set my alarm for 11AM so I can get a solid ten hours but rarely do I ever need it
>Wake up sometime before 11 (or 11 itself on rare occasions)
>Shower, eat, get ready for work
>Do whatever I want until it's actually time to go to work

I think my disdain might be more of a result from the fact that I was told that something like the standard work week is something "I'd get used to" and I never did/could adjust. No matter how early I went to bed (and I'm talking 12-16 hours before I have to wake up) if I had to wake up at 5AM my entire day is completely tilted and I'm entirely out of form.

Spoiler
There was a time where I was waking up and starting my day at around 4AM-5AM back in mid-February-all of March last year; but that was because I was suffering from a massive depression-induced insomnia and my mental state was completely fucked.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

I work at Target (on leave for school until May atm). Worst thing for morning shifts is getting home at 5:00 but being too tired to stay awake even if you want to chat with friends online. That remainder of your day is either eaten up by a nap or ends early because you have to go to bed to get enough sleep for the next day

I can't use an image in my signature? That blows, you all blow.
I worked in a little more sophisticated call center. Though we had a few shifts and I worked them all at some point I did do the typical 8-5. It got a little boring after a while. But thankfully I was rarely in the phone queues because I handled email based requests; I could bring in my gaming headset jam out to music. Since we were a satellite HQ (I was in Utah and our main HQ for my department was in Vegas,) I could also get away with watching Netflix or youtube on slow days.

On one hand the slow days were great. 8 hours of watching Kitchen Nightmares while working requests via email from customers or operations. Those days were also the worst in a sense they dragged on forever, and fewer actioned emails meant that much more work to hit quote and make bonus (Though I did considerably surpass quota and made a few hundred extra in bonus each month.

It was a good gig till we merged with another company and they took away our bonuses and replaced them with a single stock each quarter and a yearly evaluation that would lead to a raise. My first eval landed me a whole .36 cent raise. The stock was nice since it's a pretty expensive stock. It was just below 400 when I worked there and right now it's at 298 if you want to try and figure out who it was I worked for. Therein lies my problem with the stock. Sure, we all got it, but it's extremely volatile. One day it could be bitchin' stock and then the CEO says something that people take out of context and the stock price plummets. The bonus was based on how much work we put in and how much hustle we had.  Plus, even at 400 a share, it was the same as what I made with a bonus EACH MONTH, except the stock was quarterly because lolinsidertradeingisbad. There were a few months I took home 600 in bonus. Bought a couple guns with bonuses. Shit was cash.

I do kind of miss it though, even if most people in the office (in other departments) were fake as fuck. That is my experience with office drones, they're all mindless plastic automatons who talk about inane, nonsensical bullshit. There is always that one middle aged woman talking at EVERYONE who she thinks might listen about her engagement and trip to Italy. Offices, in my experience, are full of people who seek approval and admiration from others who seek that same approval and admiration. It's an endless circle jerk of, "look at me and all the money and social conscious I pretend to have."  Meanwhile, I came to work, put on metal, did my job, and went left when my time was up. Then I'd stop at the gunstore to bullshit with real living breathing interesting people for a minute or two, finger fuck a rifle or handgun, pick up a new PMAG or some ammo, then I would go home to shitpost on /k/. I admitedly did have a few buddies there who would hit the range with me or start department roast sessions. Our area was pretty laid back in that sense. No one really gave a fuck.

My advice to you. Avoid the fake people and the stereotypical office drone. Do you job, and get home to enjoy things that actually matter.

Not an office but open kinda station. I always thought I'd like the office cubicle setup for some reason and still glorify it in my mind. I guess it means I have a real job?
