You're hung up on anime when that was irrelevant to what I was saying. I could replace anime with literature in this instance and still make the same point. It's silly to judge the quality and worth of something based on its level of interactivity when comparing an interactive form of media and a non interactive form of media.

What you should instead be comparing them on are things that they have in common, such as the story, theme, message, writing, et cetera.

For example, if we were to compare the Harry Potter or LOTR books to their movies we wouldn't compare them on the basis of which one had better actors, special effects, and choreography. We'd judge them based on something like which was better at conveying the story. Granted those are adaptations so it's not quiet the same, but it's close enough to easily illustrate my point. If you'd like you could replace them with A Farewell to Arms vs Citizen Kane.
