That said there are actually shows that do have merit to them and aren't all about physics-defying acrobatics and cheesy one-liners.

Well, if you can't get past the aspect of the medium that defines it, then I don't know why you're even in the thread.

the reason i'm in the thread is to express my hatred for anime, as i always do in these threads
because... that's my right

M8, it's just another medium to convey a story in. Sometimes anime is better at conveying a story, message, or theme better than live action, sometimes live action is better at conveying a story, message, or theme better than anime. For many anime tends to be the middle ground between what's typically seen in western animation and what's seen in live action in terms of the content typically provided.

Anime is typically more willing to tackle a more complex narrative or mature themes than western animation and the nature of medium allows you more creative freedom than you have with live action. For those who are fans of animation, it's nice to get something other than the light hearted stories and often nonsensical humor that's primarily aimed at children that's typically found in western animation. Of course there are always exceptions, but that tends to be the general trend with western animation.

There's nothing there that you can't get anywhere else really, but there's nothing anywhere else that you can't get in anime so there's no reason to try and push that as some sort of negative.

Yeah, but their interactive nature makes them different than literature or any one of the various non interactive visual mediums. You could also use that interactivity as a ding against books or live action movies as well, and it's not really fair to do so as video games are inherently different than just about every other form of media due to that interactivity.

You don't have to like it, nor do you have to watch it, but your hatred of anime just seems really silly given your reluctance to even try it

If you have actually watched a bunch of them and didn't like any then that's fine, I don't have a problem with that, it's the attitude you seem to have towards it is what I find weird

books have an edge over anime, too, because it's nigh-impossible to have any of the things i HATE about anime in a book--even sexualized characters

you have to REALLY try hard to sexualize a character using written word alone without making it sound like erotica

with books, i don't have to look at some shitty fucking cartoon as i immerse myself in the story

As someone who loves animation and as watched a lot of both western and eastern animation I can really see where you're coming from and western animation has the same issue. If you follow animation back through each era each one tends to have a distinct style or trend that is followed by the majority of whats out there. So at a casual glance it really does tend to look the same, however those who watch a lot of animation will notice the different take on those styles and trends by different studios. Western animation might be worse off in this regard currently due to the trend of making everything CG which ends up making everything even more samey looking due to the lack of direct human input on the product.

i don't know, the last time i watched nickelodeon, about five to six years ago (so that's a while), there was a plethora of different art styles

danny phantom and fairly oddparents are the only two shows i can think of that have rehashed the same style

Your chocolate vs chocolate comparison would only be apt if you were comparing two alike things like say COD and Battlefield. What you're doing right now is comparing a potato to an ice cream sundae.
