Today I met first ever American girl foreign exchange. As expected, she was loud and opinionated on subjects she had no in depth knowledge of. However, she was not as fat as I thought she would be, only around 20 pounds overweight. It was very interesting meeting first ever American. It got me curious.

1. Do Americans really turn right at red lights? Red means stop.

2. Why is J-walking an offence? 

3. Why do Americans get confused when you deflect a compliment? They literally do not know how to react in that situation. Example :

American : "Wow, you're so awesome and cool."
Me and every other person in Britain : "Nah, I'm not that great."
American : "What the fuck?"

4. Why do you have a two-party sytem? It's the same shit just painted a different colour.

It's not really enforced. No one cares if you jaywalk. It's illegal because it's technically a dangerous thing to do--you're supposed to walk on the designated crosswalks if you want to cross the road.

3. Why do Americans get confused when you deflect a compliment? They literally do not know how to react in that situation. Example :

American : "Wow, you're so awesome and cool."

This is not exclusive to Americans--some people are just humble, or have low self-esteem.

Long story. No one likes or agrees to it--there's just little we can do about it at this rate.

There are a lot of Americanized spellings of English words, and this is probably among the most innocuous of them.

I don't really care why--I've heard it was because Americans wanted to dissociate themselves from their British counterparts as much as possible. Makes sense.

Personally, I enjoy that we don't spell words using archaic, superfluous, and unnecessary letters that we don't even pronounce.
