Just finished this film for the first time, and I was blown away by the ending; I had no idea they went right up to the morning he was killed. The rest of the movie wasn't great, but it's probably one of the last movies about the Iraq War we'll have for a while. It's kind of a shame that Clint Eastwood, who produced it, didn't make it the honest portrayal of the war that he did in Letters from Iwo Jima, especially since he claims it was supposed to carry an anti-war message.

It did have an anti-war message. The whole idea was that the reason he was so fucked up later in life (mentally) was because of Iraq.

Sort of, I guess. I can't think of a single other movie about Iraq or Afghanistan that didn't have the exact same message, and it was delivered along with badass shots of American military strength and a narrative about a good ol' boy just serving his country.

Great movie. Made me damn proud to be an American. Best country on earth.

It was a very average war-flick. Paper-thin characters, fairly basic plot, plenty of cliches. I expected more from Eastwood, who has a pretty solid track-record. Couldn't believe it got nominated for Best Picture.

It was good but could have been much better.

i liked it because i felt pretty involved in the characters

the ptsd part at the bbq when he went into killing mode because of the dog was really powerful because I've seen a real life instance of that before

i don't know if i liked it over the lone survivor but it's perhaps on par

It's as American as apple pie

That fake baby ruins the immersion.
