People who identify themselves as "gamer" make me cringe. It's like foodie. Or calling someone who reads books a "booker".

I don't like the term either, but it's easier to say than "person who plays video games."

Is casually saying "I like to play video games as a hobby" really that much more difficult than saying "I'm a gamer"?

I wasn't necessarily implying that it had to be said in that way. Eh, none of this is going to stop people from using the term "gamer" anywho.

You're only allowed to call yourself a gamer if you play most games that aren't cowadoody and fifa + mobile, and like all kinds of games. Then if you really wanna feel like a gamer, you have to see everything in life as a game, and you have to be good at it or at least understand it. Fighting, going to the gym, eating, travelling, all of these things will be translated into game mechanics, such as Energy restoration, grinding, mini games, loading segments etc.

People who call themselves gamers because they play videogames are cringe-worthy, but if your life pretty much revolves around games like a bookworm reading a new book every week then you may call yourself a gamer.
