Geoff Johns scared him off after they continually could not agree on a final script.
Johns finished the rough script himself and handed it over to Chris Terrio, writer of Argo, for polishing and a rewite.
The new director is Matt Reeves.
If you aren't aware, he was the director of Cloverfield.

Might be slated for next year.
People are saying turmoil and power struggles have been damaging the film, but it seems apparent that as long as they can run in the direction they've aimed themselves in, this film will change the DCEU.

As long as they let comics writers write the stories and use decent directors instead of Zack 'Bay Mk. II: SloMo Edition' Snyder, I think this series can turn around.

So when will the DCU finally JUST itself out of existence

Like seriously, at what point will they realise they're just producing shitty films.

I trust Johns, but that was a bad move. Affleck really wants to do a good Batman film.

I think getting Affleck off the script was his goal, but losing him as director may not be a boon.
Generally if Geoff Johns disagrees with somebody about DC, he's right.

Matt Reeves is a very good director, but they definitely pissed off Ben Affleck more than they meant to.
There's a bunch of video of Affleck being mopey and melodramatic about problems finishing the script leading up to this.

Zero chance this will be any good.
