See you Cowgirl,
Someday, somewhere
Didn't even bother checking the date today. Saw a flag at half-staff today and thought "huh, that's weird". Now it makes sense

japanese go to hell. pearl harbor worst day in america
People that died in Pearl Harbor - 3000
People that died in the Atomic bombings - 130,000
Japanese attacked America unprovoked and without any warning. We gave Japan plenty of warnings and let people know ahead of time. A land invasion would have dwarfed that of D-Day and at the end, would have left millions of Japanese citizens dead. It's well documented that on individual islands, the Japanese fought to the last man and at all costs, civilians included; there have been times they committed mass suicide
The war was going to end anyway with Russia and Britain about to invade Japan.

We didn't even need to invade Japan, they would have surrendered. Also Japan started the war with the United States because it was their only choice to continue building their country. The U.S cut off Japan's oil supply and Japan had no natural oil fields. They had no choice but to start a war for resources.
U.S cut off oil to Japan because the Japanese invasions of China, notably Manchuria, and the notorious "Rape of Nanking" where Imperial soldiers not only killed Chinese soldiers, but committed horrendous acts to women and children

Even before the embargo and invasions, detailed predictions were made by Gen. Mitchell that Japan was going to attack Pearl Harbor on a Sunday

The war would have not ended with an invasion. It would have, but after every single man, women, child died from suicide or fighting against allied forces. Millions would have died
So you're saying every citizen in Japan would commit suicide from an Allied invasion.

Even though that's exactly what we did when we occupied Japan which lasted for 7 years.

Yet there are still Japanese citizens.

December 7th, 1941

I had some family who fought in WWII.
That was a crazy time.
Both my great grandfathers fought in the war. Each on different sides.
Same.
One was on the Allies the other on the Axis ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
German and Serbian bby!
Details?
What do you mean?
Your greatgrandfather or Septy's that was fighting for Serbians?
Both were my grandfathers.
On each side.
Do you know anything further about who/where they served? My Grandfather was there and I was wondering if they might've met.
mmm I know more about my German side. But then again when they were still alive they barely talked about it. =/

I only had family on the U.S' side of it. 2 people in particular saw action.

One Uncle got his thumb shot off. And at some point he hid in a bail of hay from German soldiers. They were stabbing pitchforks into the hay bails trying to find people who were hiding. He never got caught.

Another family member lost his legs due to frostbite. Not sure what exactly happened with him.
My German grandfather got his gun shot while he was firing which cause shrapnel to stick in his arm. I swear you could still feel it when he was alive a couple years ago. Anyways he got captured by thhe Brits for 11 months then was released at the end of the war.

Prolonged occupation means postponed results. Japan became anti-natalist now and the population decline will finish off what we should have.

The Japanese citizens were being manipulated and controlled just like North Koreans citizens are today. While the Tojo and the military were the ones pulling the strings, they utilized the Emperor as a puppet and sent everything that happened through him and to the public. If he told the citizens to fight, they would have fought; if he told the citizens to stand down, they would stand down. The eradication of Japanese military control over the government and the emperor allowed the people to finally see reason and realized they were being played. Because of that, they were grateful to us for saving them and welcomed us. We gave them technology and prosperity and they embraced it; very reason they are such a successful country today. If these Middle-Eastern countries were to follow the same path then things would be different

And there's still no way to justify the Nukes. The U.S. wanted to show off their new weapons and effectively started a new war by using them. Japan was going to surrender either way.
