Anno has stated that Q and Shin were meant to be viewed together, so part of the confusion from Q is we're missing an entire half of one whole part. The original plans for NTE were to have Q and Final be two halves of one whole movie (like how EoE is two episodes making up one movie). Also keep in mind we'll finally get a CRC for both Q and Shin after it relases. The whole reason we never got a Q CRC is because it would spoil a lot in Shin. I'm honestly surprised they came out with the storyboard books considering a couple of the scenes that we were shown in that.

"One Last Kiss" wont release until the day after Shin premieres in theaters so it's getting the Sakura Nagashi treatment that Q had. We can expect a release trailer when the movie premieres in Japan but we should probably get one more big announcement/trailer probably around a month to two weeks before release.

The movie is 100% complete from start to finish with all editing done. Now begins the process with Toho Cinemas to distribute the film across the country, expect more advertisements in the coming weeks.

Khara animation staff taking a well deserved R&R.

After eight years, Shin Eva will finally release.

Anybody care to give an explanation of why Verb's hyped for weebshit? I keep up loosely on animes. What makes this one so outstanding that even the old man's not dissing it?

Had an idea. EVA's undertones and foundations were based off the subtle dissing of the growing trend of escapism manifesting in japanese youth. It ironically garned a cult of fans that didn't pick up on the message. That why you like the EVA series Verb? It low key pisstakes on all other animes while succumbing to the very thing it warned against? Apart from all the other psychological topics it tackles.

With how long I've waited for this movie, and just how important it is to the anime industry; I might finally understand how all those Soyjack Redditors felt when Infinity War came out.

You'll have to explain that one to me. Why's it so important to the industry? I'm guessing if the movie took eight years to animate then it may have something to do with production quality standards in part?

The eight year gap is actually because right after 3.0 released in theaters in 2012, Anno went into another depression and didn't even visit his studio for the entire calendar year of 2013. Right when he came back, he was exhausted from working on Eva for so long that put it on hold and decided to work on other projects. He was a VA for Miyazaki's The Wind Rises and directed Shin Godzilla in 2016. He didn't get fully back to work on Eva until the beginning of 2017. This gap was by no means planned; the very first original plan for New Theatrical Edition had 3.0 and Shin Eva supposed to release together as a double feature; and when that fell through they were supposed to release extremely close to one another. When 3.0's release date was announced, Shin was announced to release in 2013, but that obviously didn't happen and we were stuck in Limbo until we got more information in 2017/2018.

To further drive home how important 3.0 and Shin are too each other. The first two movies got a resource book (Complete Records Collection) released right after their DVD/Blu-ray release that details the entire behind-the-scenes process of the movie. 3.0 never got one because Anno has stated he'll release it together with Shin since shedding any light on 3.0 would massively spoil Shin Eva.

Eva is important to the industry because of just how many different works were inspired by it. There a re numerous rip-offs, spiritual successors, and love letters to Eva in Anime; and a lot of the tropes, clichés, and ideas/themes can be found in so many different titles that aren't even mecha related. The only problem is that the industry didn't really "learn" anything from what Eva/Anno was trying to teach them despite Anno being memed massively for fucking around with his audience. Thus, when 3.0 released in 2012 and Anno did what he does best with Eva, everyone freaked out and 3.0 sits at a solid 3/5 or 5/10 in most review circles. Not because it's just a "meh" movie, but because people either praise it to high heaven as another masterpiece by the God Director, or it's 0/10 garbage dumpster fire and Anno has become a massive hack.

You'll have to explain that one to me. Why's it so important to the industry? I'm guessing if the movie took eight years to animate then it may have something to do with production quality standards in part?

Yeah, you more or less nailed it. It's impossible to describe shows as "deep" anymore without making people cringe, but I genuinely think it's a pretty deep show with so much interesting shit to chew on, from the surface level character interactions to the underlying philosophical themes. On top of that, it's also just a good and solidly entertaining show with very well-written and empathetic characters who feel more human to me than literally any other anime that I've seen. It just does so much right that the other 299 shows I've tried simply don't (okay, okay, there's a few others, of course).

Not that the show doesn't have its pitfalls, of course—for one thing, it isn't above sexualizing 14-year-olds for the sake of comic relief, which isn't great, and I've always been disappointed that a lot the religious imagery and Christian references were appropriated mainly for aesthetic purposes, and not because it's inherently meaningful—which is all well and good, but it would've made the show all the more interesting if they made an effort to impart some actual meaning into that stuff, imo.

In fact, they could've just shut their mouths about that in general so that the viewers could be free to interpret those elements for themselves, like they can with everything else about the show, but the fact that they've come forward and said, "Yeah nah, we just thought it would be cool and exotic for Japanese audiences" kind of just shuts the door on the conversation entirely, which is a shame.

But yeah, still a great show—but perhaps only accidentally, if the Rebuild films are any indication. In any case, good anime do exist. I still hate the medium at large, but I've discovered that I've a bigger hatred for the fans more than anything else. Most people who like Evangelion don't even know why it's good, which seems to be somewhat of a trend for a lot of my favorite things (Fight Club especially comes to mind).

That's probably because a lot of people don't sit round and ponder their favorite shows too much. Some will, but they won't really go too deep either. You're probably one in a handful that I've met who would sit round and ponder deeply. Only others I've seen are a few popular youtube names, and I think even to a degree they miss huge chunks of the media they watch. That and different strokes for different folks. Shows attract for multitudes of different reasons, even if some people can't see the respective layers. I guess that's the diversity of people for ya.

I don't think I've watched what I'd consider a perfect film or show. Unfortunately japan has it's thing with sex due to their immense repression problems, so that'd probably explain that portion. And as for christian stuff, well, that's the rule of cool at work. That one's unavoidable in any culture I think.

The re-edited 3.333 and Shin Eva will screen back to back January 22nd going into the 23rd for a midnight release of Shin Eva.

Ticket sales for the midnight screening begin January 13, but we could get ticket sales potentially earlier for single screenings. This is important because it gives us a good chance of figuring out the total runtime of the movie.

Khara is unironically out here trying to ban Eva hentai.
No doubt they're jealous that the fan works aren't nearly as dogshit as 3.33

Just to hold me over until this shit finally comes out, I just got done watching Shin Godzilla, and it was pretty fucking awesome. I don't remember the last time I've ever felt afraid during a monster movie, but Shin Godzilla's many forms actually struck me as genuinely terrifying, which I was very happy about. Also, imagine the volume of my nut when they first incorporated Bataille Décisive into the soundtrack.

Before I watched this, though, I actually chose to start with the 1954 original first, just to familiarize myself with the source material, and I thoroughly enjoyed that as well. Its age does show (a lot), but it honestly only added to the experience, and I'm ashamed that it's taken me this long to see it, but now at least I can say that I have.

What I liked the most about these two movies, as you might have guessed, were the scathing critiques on humanity, the anti-war themes, and the gravely serious tone, so I'm not sure if you could call me a Godzilla convert just yet... mainly because I'm not sure if I could honestly stomach the cheesier movies in the franchise. But with that said, color me impressed with Anno's interpretation. I'd say this movie was definitely worth delaying 3.0+1.0 a few extra years, and I'd even look forward to a sequel, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen.

2016 was still beneath shit tier in all respects, and Shin Godzilla coming out that year doesn't come close to changing that.
