I thought it was gonna be like the party after the beastie boys arrive, but it was much more like the one before it, so I drank a buncha green shit to get a bit drunk, but I realized what happened so I only drank two glasses of dilluted green whatever. I also had white wine and normal wine for the first time. Totally not what I expected

I see your point. So the only one having fun is potentially the host since they're the one who knows everyone and can therefore seamlessly interact with whomever they want, all while each person invited will keep to small pockets since they're unfamiliar with each other; making the host have all the more ease of engaging in case the point didn't come across clear enough.

Small house parties with good friends are some of the best.

Small house parties with complete unknowns who are either unwelcoming or don't bother aren't worth your time.

Half and halfs of these two scenarios can be either meh/alright, or pretty fucking good and you make friends with the unknowns.
