I think the problem is that we associate racism with evil so much to a point where we tend to shy away from our own racist tendencies, no matter how benign--because we don't want to associate ourselves with evil or stupidity. I'm not trying to definitively say that it makes you racist--I'm just trying to play around with the idea.

I've met people who believe this. If you're not willing to have sex without preference, then you're racist/sexist/homophobic/Transphobic/fat-shaming etc... My belief is that it's the same thing as we find here with anti feminist posts. It comes down to entitlement. The current generation truly believes it is entitled to sex. No one is willing to work for it. Almost no one, anyways. So, you sit on tumblr or a gaming forum and bitch how you got friendzoned, fat shamed etc...

i think you've completely missed the mark, actually--i don't think it's about entitlement at all

for some people, maybe--but certainly not everybody who has asked this question

my point is, it doesn't matter how "hard" you work; i will never want to have sex with you if you have down's syndrome--EVER! or anything else that i consider undesirable

And since ugly and attractive is subjective, discriminating who you date or not is not bigotry

Physical attractiveness does play a role in relationships
So if you don't date black people because you don't like the look of black skin, it doesn't make you a shitty person
It might mean you're a bit superficial because you put that much into looks but it's not bigotry

But if you say you don't date black people because you think they're dumb niggers, then that is bigotry

You're not denying somebody something that they're perfectly capable of doing because you were never attracted to them in the first place.

I don't know--I read this sentence like ten times, but something about it just rubs me the wrong way.

The way I see it, anyone can potentially be your perfect partner, regardless of any superficial factors like, attractiveness. I guess my question is, should physical attraction be a factor at all, ethically speaking? I don't think it should, but that's kinda just the way it is--and maybe that's a benign form of bigotry.

Though perhaps not so benign, because people can end up doing some extraordinarily harmful shit for love. But it's innate.
