I generally have a gripe with comforting - mainly because everyone tells me I suck at it.
Instead of saying shit like "It will be okay" or "I'm here for you" I always jump straight into the mindset of "Okay, how do I help this person?"
So yeah, I see stuff like "It will be okay" as totally useless. How will it be okay if no one does something about it?

like verby said, there's an underlying implication that it's a good reason. what I'm saying is that, how are we supposed to even know what these reasons are? cause and effect can only do so much. For example, i have a dog that accidentally eats too much chocolate and dies. The cause is consuming the chocolate, and the effect is death. Where is this supernatural "reason," ya know?

i mean, i agree that it isn't really required, and pondering common platitudes that have stood the test of time isn't necessarily productive, but i feel like people should know why what they're saying is senseless

Tbh I think people know bad shit happens for no reason, but the idea terrifies them so much they need to reassure themselves there's some ultimate goal that justifies said occurrence.

I know sometimes I get severe anxiety and I'll tell myself almost anything to ease that tbh
