Your Views on Corporal Punishment?

So, many people are slip when it comes to this subject. Some are in favor, some are not. Some view it as child abuse, some view it as discipline. What do you think of it?

Now, I was raised in old school style. If me or my little brother acted up, we got spankings. But it wasnt out of sheer anger, my parents took the time to explain why this was happening, that they love me and that I was doing something bad or whatever. I think your stance on it may come from how you were raised in your home.

People should be able to control and discipline their kids without having to resort to that.
My brother actually taught in a school which heavily encouraged corporal punishment. It was absolutely sickening to hear it. He refused to hit any of the kids despite the principal strongly insisting that he do.
That guy was completely corrupt though, and I'm pretty sure he fled the country not long after my brother confronted him.

I don't think light spanking is abuse, but corporal punishment is proven to be ineffective and harmful to a child's psyche.

A light spank to teach a kid that what they're doing is wrong is not child abuse, it's used to shock the child into realizing that what they are doing is wrong. there's a difference between beating a kid with a god damn belt and a spanking once in a while when a kid does wrong.

Is there actually any empirical evidence to back up what you're saying?

I hear the spanking argument from users here all the time, and I never see anything more substantial than anecdotal evidence and personal belief.
