Your view on drug laws?

What's your opinion on how your country handles its laws against the use and possession of drugs?

I believe that drugs which have medical uses and are not inherently addictive, such as cannabis and a few psychedelic substances like LSD and psyilocybin mushrooms, should be legalized for medicinal and responsible recreational use. Currently in the US, psychedelics and cannabis are considered schedule I drugs because, according to the DEA, they have "high potential for abuse and have no accepted medical purposes," which is clearly outdated.

I'm an advocate for legal consenting adults to be able to temporarily alter their perception by using these drugs in a safe and regulated manner. What exactly is a safe and regulated manner? Having licensed dispensaries with a supply regulated by the FDA who only sell to adults 21 years of age or older, or in the case of cannabis and mushrooms, being able to obtain permits to grow your own. There are cultures of people who have been using these substances for centuries, and the government has made what should be a personal choice illegal on the grounds of old-wives tales of the 1960s and the "war on drugs."

All drugs should be legalised and subject to varying forms of regulation.

Things like cannabis? Have a Dutch-coffee-shop type arrangement.

Cocaine? Sold in specialised pharmacies.

Heroin? Only available with a prescription to be taken in a supervised consumption area.

The thing with cocaine and heroin is that it's very possible for someone to become physically dependent on those substances after a single use, especially with heroin. A famous example is Kurt Cobain.

Now, if euthanasia were legalized, heroin should be the substance of choice, as a heroin overdose is objectively the most peaceful way to kill yourself.

I'm fairly certain that is false; I don't think there's a single substance on Earth that will get you physiologically addicted to something after a single use. I mean, it's only about 23pc of people who have used heroin actually get addicted to it.

^Loosely this, although there should be some sort of prescription arrangement (Create a new form of paperwork so as to not taint the green slips with skagheads) to make sure that people who are physically vulnerable to it (Like a heart condition) aren't able to just swan into Boots and walk out with a brick of cocaine.

Decriminalisation is a must though, not for suppliers though. You treat the addict in the same way that you would treat an alcoholic or a smoker (Not in terms of medical care, in terms of legality etc) but the little shite killing people with drugs on the street corner can go into the clink <_<

Full legalisation/decriminalisation and heavy regulation on the drugs, and taxes on top to cover related health problems and further research into the lesser known drugs.

Warnings placed on the packaging for health risks, etc similar to cigarettes, and education given on them in schools like they have for alcohol.

There's always going to be drug abusers, legal or illegal, so you may as well treat them rather than sentence them, and teach the young 'uns about them so they have an educated choice on whether to take them or not later in life rather than "This shit is dangerous, so it's cool as fuck to do lolololol"

That said, shit like Krokodil and other "ersatz-drugs" should remain illegal. That shite literally kills and only exists because the pure stuff wasn't available in the first place.

Saying "it doesn't feel right" isn't an argument; saying "it destroys communities" is an argument. Just leaving it at "it doesn't feel right" has no weight whatsoever.

And then you get into the whole argument about whether legalising = endorsement, or whether regulation is better than criminalisation at controlling drug use. I'd argue the two aren't equivalent, and that regulation is superior.

I don't think tobacco use will be very prominent in three generations.
And codeine, oxy, and the like are already regulated and intentional abuse is prohibited.

I'm all up for legalazation/decriminalization and regulation myself but my parents biggest concern is them not trusting people enough to not drive while intoxicated and putting many others in danger.

But I do agree with the 'your body your choice".

I'm in favor of full decriminalization across the board and recreational availability for some narcotics and most psychedelics, with prescriptions available for opiates/other addictive painkillers/etc.

Keeping things illegal, even highly dangerous drugs like krokodil/bath salts, doesn't do anything as a deterrent in the long run. Prohibition never works except to allow certain parties to profit (eg:
the DEA/American government and modern prohibition).

Addiction should be treated as an extremely high priority health issue, along with other preventable "diseases" like obesity.
