Humans need an exterior threat in order to make the best of any situation. The revival of the USSR, if we don't blow each other up with nukes of course, would only mean good things for the rate of technological advancement.

I'd rather see that from the economy. I don't want the government to have another reason to shove some "security" legislation down our fucking throats.

I honestly don't know, I don't know much about Russia now other than the few Ross Kemp Neo-Nazi documentaries and Putin being the homophobic action man of politicians.

The USSR had a sort of romanticism about it, interesting to watch within the safety of the internet but I wouldn't want to live in it. It had character, like Nazi Germany, the Roman Empire or Feudal Japan etc.

What would I prefer? To live in? Neither, Russia has always been a scary place, it always will be. But the USSR has a certain romanticism, it had character, it was like a macabre Russian Doll, the outer shell was beautiful but underneath it was dark and grim, getting worse the deeper you pull off the layers.
