Lets take a look at the Allied countries in WW2. We were unified together fighting the Axis countries which had some other countries backing them up. The US gave the British military supplies like tanks, ships and food we also did the same for Russia. If this was today I doubt we would be giving Russia tanks and shit for them to buy. Anyway when the war was over with did the allied countries stay together to fight another threat like the one in WW2? Nope Russia ended up doing it's thing until the Soviet Union broke up and NATO was formed to counter Russia which is still in play today. So then would it be possible for the world to end military conflicts with each other without some type of outside threat like aliens to keep us together?

World wide peace as in we stop military conflicts with each other. For my WW2 thing the allied countries were together fighting a common enemy and when it was over it broke up somewhat. Russia did it's own thing and NATO was formed to counter Russia. So basically unless there's a lasting common enemy for the world would worldwide peace be a thing without something to keep us together like a common enemy.

How exactly is there world peace when we're engaged in war? Common enemy or not, it's war. Not peace.

Same with aliens invading our planet. We'd be engaged in war. There's nothing peaceful about it.

One of these things is not like the other.

When I did the thread I was thinking of Watchmen between the US and Russia. When Ozymandias creature/bombs happened both sides stopped hostilities at each other and turned their focus at the another creature/Manhattan.

Peace wouldn't last very long if there's ever a worldwide threat it wouldn't be possible.
