This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Fuck getting old.

The thing that scares me most is not getting a terminal illness, and having to slowly waste away with age. Fuck treatment, I'll let cancer or whatever have me. Most doctors apparently refuse treatment, and instead decide to live out the rest of their days peacefully; indeed, for everybody, there comes a point where fighting a terminal illness just makes your quality of life worse.

Maybe that's why I smoke.

Yknow maybe back in the day these thoughts were relevant, maybe they will be still today, but with where we are maybe we're close enough to VR and shit that we can hold out til a veritable fountain of youth. Right now that's what kind of makes me favor trying to live. Maybe not for living as an old fart for 10 millenia, but maybe we'll find a way to experience ten lifetimes in VR for every 10 minutes of reality. I'd hold out for that opportunity personally, maybe that's just because I have a lot of unrealistic fetishes that can't be lived out IRL though.

I would blame it on people being majorily irresponsible in their prime.  These people buy expensive houses and cars relative to what they earn; then they just gotta bring a kid or two into the world because reasons.  By the time the kids are grown and put through college, a half dozen cars have been gone through, and that house is payed off, they're outta their prime with only a few years to save up before what's considered retirement age.

In this day and age, most people shouldn't have kids and should live in smaller, more respectable houses.  I'm sure the hundreds of thousands saved would easily cover retirement.  Unfortunately, these same people feel entitled to have children to waste money on only to come up short themselves in the end.  Now they want society to pay for them.

there is a huge advantage to this - the fact you don't have to save up for retirement in the first place if you're willing to work as long as you can and participate in The Smith and Wesson Retirement Plan when the time comes.

Or you could work as long as you can and participate in a normal fucking IRA and live a comfortable life well past the retirement age. If you want to kill yourself because you don't know how to save for retirement or don't understand how pensions or social security work, go right ahead. Fewer people to pay, in the end.

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
somewhat related, I guess...

My grandfather is about 65... He's a very noncompliant diabetic who was recently found in am insulin coma by my grandmother and brought back bt emergency medical folks.
He's explicitly told me that if I ever find him like that, that I should feat him like a DNR and leg him be... I think  I'd ultimately respect that over my grandmother's desire for him to keep living.

It's quite the conundrum for me... Respect his desires and live with her blame and contempt, or save him and hear him bitch about it until he finally dies when nobody is around...
He pretty much wants to die so he can stop feeling like shit every day.

If he doesn't have a DNR request form filled out, have him look into it quickly. DNRs are already iffy and a gray area, even for medical personnel. Protect yourself in the end and have him get one if he wants to be treated DNR to that, unless he only wants one for something like that. Even still, that could look bad on you.
