I think that's primarily for two reasons. The gender change followed by more hurt or suicide.

For one thing, most people don't accept it. And they actively most likely shun it. Waking up every day to be told that whatever move you make is wrong, is crushing.

Second, a lot of trans folks are unstable by default. When their body undergoes doses and switching of hormones, the hormones clash, basically, adding a hell of a lot more fuel to the unstable fire. There's an end process to the trans process that removes or basically makes their default set of sexual organs null, which means that they no longer have the hormones clashing and only one predominant set in them. But most don't tend to go for that because it's a difficult fucking choice.

So, where does that land us?

In the neurological hardwiring of the brain area. You can't convince a trans person to just switch that feeling off. We don't have the understanding of how our brains are hardwired to things like that, and we sure as hell don't have the means to tinker, and change that, without harming somebody or having it considered as unethical.

So the only real path for them at the moment, is that gauntlet to run. It's not a very pretty one either, because like you said, a lot of them don't make it through, and some who get to the end are still, not better off.

Personally, I think the best we can aim for, is an easier process of conversion. We'll probably develop technology to change body parts and stuff like that faster than we'll understand how to tinker with our brains. If we eventually streamline a way to change body parts, through cloning and grafting and such, then the process will move much quicker.

And if somebody gets to the end process, and doesn't like the result, then likewise, they could turn back a lot easier as well.

In the near future, that's the best I can see happening. I don't see us cracking how and why our brains function the way they do, and then altering them, in any way for a long time.

If someone is still confused and unsure of what to do, help them.

The fact that it causes depression is the problem. It itself is not the problem. The fact that not every transgendered person has committed suicide and isn't suicidally depressed is proof of this.

But, it's a lot easier to change someone's body than to change their brain, I'm not sure how you'd be able to tell or convince me it's ok to be a guy when I've been trying to tell myself that for the past 7 years

I spent a really long time trying to not be trans, that didn't work. What am I supposed to do?
