Only uninformed idiots are against Common Core.

Is there such a thing as informed idiots? A lot of these people who are in support of Common Core, with no questions ask, either don't have a child, or even work in a school environment to know how the stuff really plays out.

Why is the teacher spending nearly two hours each day lecturing in math? When I sat in a math class.. it was 40 minutes lecture and 20 minutes doing the assignment.

Trust me, I'm not going to be one and I don't want kids either. Do you even work in a school, in a classroom on a daily basis to know what's really going on though? I don't think I provided a clear enough example to explain my concern I guess, but when a teacher spends 2 hours on the math subject with the class.. there is a serious problem. Science, Social Studies, Art, even our Technology time is 30 minutes or less on a weekly basis. How wrong is that?

Common Core is and will be a complete failure

Don't give me any of the Kentucky B.S also. Reason being is that is was specifically designed for Kentucky schools. What Common Core actually shows is that states/schools should be in charge of designing their educational plans

So much this. We need to be preparing children for the real life, that means teaching applied skills. In an everyday work scenario, a person will either pull out a calculator or quickly jot down a problem like 2+2x4(5-3) and solve it that way. It's simple, time saving, and the best way to do math.

Different teachers use different teaching methods in different subjects. Common Core doesn't demand usage of the number line any more or less.

This is easy for you to say. You understand basic arithmetic. Adding two small numbers is easy for you. For a little kid who can barely count, adding a two digit number is confusing as all fuck. The number line method isn't meant to be the only method used in school. It's meant to aid children in understanding the shit they're doing before they move on to easier, more efficient methods.

You understand that this method isn't taught as a replacement for traditional stacked adding methods, right? You understand that it's taught as a supplement to that method for the kids who, for whatever reason, can't grasp it initially?
