But adults cannot?
For leisure that is, obviously adults can do the same thing over and over again (Work) but I'm referring to the ability of young children to be entertained by the same film almost constantly.
When I was younger I could watch something like Pirates of the Caribbean 4-5 times a day and not get bored by it. Now if I try to sit and watch a film I can get restless/bored, but trying to watch the same film twice in a row would be awful, let alone several times a day <.<
Anyone have any thoughts on why this might be? Or if this is/was the case for you?
Of course it applies to damn near everything*; Songs, Toys, TV programmes etc. (*Leisure oriented obviously)

films are rather complex, and children often have tiny attention spans, so the more you watch a film as a child, the more you learn about how films work, regarding the cinematography, the acting, the score, the dialogue, and the plotlines--it's difficult for children to absorb all this new information on the first watch
as we develop our understanding further, we absorb lots of information much more efficiently
it's a developmental thing

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Adults are smarter.
Smarter people need more novelty.
Excessive novelty is equal to thrill-seeking and risk-taking.
These behaviours are correlated with psychopathy.
Psychopaths are addicted to novelty.
Psychopaths are the smartest people on the planet.

depends on the age
under anything younger than a toddler, they're just happy to watch the colors moving and it entertains them.
A little older than that (around 10 or so) not completely sure, and what I think is probably incorrect. i'll ask my mother later, she went to school and learned about kids.
When kids become Teens, then they start to get out of this.

My guess would be that young kids have less things they know of that can entertain them. It's almost like they don't know what else to do.

the one true God is Doctor Doom and we should all be worshiping him.
I actually learned about this in a class I took last semester. Essentially, children are at a formative age where observation is the main priority, so getting used to motion and sound is key, at least with movies.
With toys it's about learning in a tactile sense, like building shit with legos and getting used to how they work. They need to know how it works, in and out, before moving on to something else, and they may spend a lot of time on one function, like a blinking light on an electronic toy, because they don't understand how it works and want to figure it out by repeating whatever caused the light to appear.
Adults, on the other hand, don't need to keep watching what's happening on the screen or figure out what every little feature of what they're holding does - they just need to apply that knowledge to something productive. It's natural for us grown-ass men to get restless watching movies because there's nothing productive coming out of it. We're not entertained by toys because we already know how they work. Kids don't, and they find that
fascinating
