Every single authoritarian state existing today exists as a de-jure Democracy. And even Nazi Germany and Italy under Mussolini had national parliaments with "elected" representatives. So why even keep up this facade of Democracy when everyone knows that you aren't one like in modern authoritarian states, or you're officially rejecting Democracy like in Nazi Germany and Mussolinistan? What's even the point? They are already recognized internationally for the most part.

i think the thought goes that a democratically elected oligarchy can make better decisions than the entirety of the citizenry, on account of people not really knowing whats best for themselves. now, in an ideal world, where we have potent and substantive public education, representative democracy and all of its drawbacks can be cast off- but we dont live in that world yet.

Fascism is just Liberal Democracy faced with the real possibility of defeat by another cultural system. Even the British Empire was fascistic during the second world war.
