I don't think I have any really outrageous viewpoints.

I think patriotism is retarded and dangerous (depending on your definition of it I guess) but I don't think that's ever been particularly controversial.

I mean I support some kind of basic income system combined with mass automation but idk if even that's really radical either.

Perhaps the one that nearly all illicit drugs should be legalized and the resources used to prosecute individuals for using should be funneled into programs that educate people more effectively and help addicts use safer (clean needles, quality controlled substances etc) and ultimately come clean.

Basically treat drug use as a public health issue instead of a criminal one.

Federalism was a mistake and presidential assassins should be celebrated.

Anyway, my most radical belief would be that you should have to pass a test on what you know about the basics of the country you are in to vote (so for America, the constitution, and various positions) , and that's a view that shifts from "it should be a thing" to "well then again..." constantly. I just believe people vote without much knowledge of what they're voting for, or the impact it has. Regardless of if you liked Trump or not, some people legit voted for him "for the memes", and then when he won they were surprised, and subsequently, angry. Same with Brexit voters.

I also have the belief that if you abstained from voting in the US, you don't have nearly as much a right to bitch about the current state of things than someone who did their civic duty.

It used to be like that but public schools are  government funded and brainwashing kids. The right to vote should be earned.

i disagree entirely with the part where she said that those who abstain (or otherwise consider themselves too uninformed to vote) have no right to complain about a shitty result, because while they may have the humility to consider themselves too stupid to vote, i'd say most people are smart enough to realize a shit situation when they're put in one

more people should be voting in the long term, because hopefully by that point, we'll actually have an electorate that's educated, well-informed, unbiased, and thoroughly invested in the political affairs of their country

but in the short term, less people should be voting, because we're simply not there yet, and we're not going to get there for a very long time (if ever) and that's just the reality

most people don't know how to conduct proper research, and you can't blame them for not being able to do so

it's actually extremely difficult for the average person (who doesn't understand how the internet works) how to sift through news sources, detect bias, and realize when they're being fed bullshit

even these so-called "fact-checkers" can manipulate people into thinking ANYTHING just by calling themselves a "fact-checker"

i don't think it's reasonable to expect people to know where to look for the facts

Can they recognize a shitty situation? Sure, anybody can. But they don't really have the "right" to say anything because they did absolutely nothing to change anything. I know this recent election was a complete farce, but to abstain when there's a candidate like trump who has the possibility of winning, I think you let your country down tremendously.

sure, the nature of this past election is something of an anomaly where the correct choice was so painfully obvious, i wouldn't have wanted to see less than a 90% voting turnout

but i'm not factoring in the last election, though, because yes it was a farce, and also because no other election in american history has been this clear-cut, especially on the state level (which could be argued are the ones that matter more)

We have The Voting Rights Act of 1965 for a reason; it is extremely easy to take these concepts and create barriers that discriminate against minorities.

It sounds really rudimentary, but as far as I see the only way that can't fuck up is encouraging more people to vote and educating the greater populace about identifying credible and reliable sources. It's not perfect, but discouraging voting (or the opposite, mandatory voting) is counterproductive to maintaining a nation that defines itself by its ideas of freedom, where the individual's actions are defined by his or her ability and willingness to act upon them.
