Why is the whole protest in Ferguson even a thing.

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
There's a serious issue of racism in the Ferguson police dept. (and other areas) which needs addressing. The shooting of Brown, however, is being blown out of proportion and the riots are being used as an excuse to violate law and order.

Now, if a big-ass wannabe gangster black kid was attacking me - I'm sure I'd have done the same as the cop in question.

I honestly think the majority of the blame lies on behalf of the media by depicting the false narrative of Michael Brown being an innocent little angel child.

I'm just going to share this - there are riots and "civil unrest" when a sports team wins/loses a championship game, when Joe Paterno was fired, and even at random festivals.

Those protests turn violent, with destruction of businesses and looting, yet there is nowhere near the outrage that has come with the protests here.

I'm just curious as to why that is?
Entitlement.

People feel their team or culture is superior and when they are shown not, they throw huge fits

Basically. I think someone lit a car on fire the one year Philly won the world series as everyone was out drinking and partying in the streets.

Because they feel the system is broken and want change.
because destroying people's livelihoods is in any way conducive to progressive change instead of more violence.
Something tells me the rioters didn't sit down to rationally weigh out the pros and cons of their actions before they started.
There were peaceful protests but violent gangs used it as a guise to go rob and destroy stuff to get away with it.
Maybe in some cases.

Destruction of property, bodily harm, and death are not "just partying"

No, but that's what led to those events.

Does the original stimulus matter when it leads to the same thing that is happening in Ferguson?

Any sensible person thinks that bullshit is retarded.

Let me ask you a question. Do you recall the Arab Spring movement? You know, began in 2011 in Tunisia?

If yes, do you know how that entire movement started?
Didn't the large wave of rioting happen after some guy set himself on fire?

I want to say yes, but I'm lacking the proper wording to do so...

Anyway, I just wanted to answer Icy's question, not to imply that I was defending the drunken idiots who destroy shit to celebrate a championship.

Sort of.

Long story short - the man owned a cart where he sold produce. Police seized the cart, after which the man set himself on fire in the police station and later died.

The protests, which sparked the entire Arab Spring movement, began as a protest over police corruption - which, whether or not you think the people for Ferguson are right in their protests, is currently being done in cities across the country - large and small.

Either way, my point is people praised the protests that began in Tunisia (Which were also peaceful that had amounts of violence, arson, etc.), yet we immediately condemn the protests here.

Same thing. people feel their team is somehow the best and can't take the fact they loose
