It's something I've heavily offended by as a social justice warrior, feminist, LGBTQQAA, liberal, progressive, atheist, socialist, ACLU, lawyer, evolutionist, keynesian, gay, Muslim, minority, womyn, hippie, protester, environmental alarmist, illegal immigrant, lower middle class, clergyman, transgender, unemployed jew.
I, for some reason, grew averted to using any pronouns to refer to a good number of trans people a few years back. I'd say it applies to m2f than f2m, but, well, I've only known one of the later, and that doesn't seem scientifically right to do so. May have something to do with constantly getting bitched at for calling literally everyone "dude" or "guy" since they're basically gender neutral terms in my vernacular.
I honestly don't think anyone here is truly transphobic. That stuff goes on solely, I think, to get a rise out of the person that it's directed at.

I think "it" is a completely reasonable English neuter, but we'd have to get rid of the connotation. Just call everyone "it", but clarify that you're just trying to start a trend and not have it be offensive.
