Serious sometimes feels like a Facebook trending news feed

Maybe I'm the only one annoyed by this, but so frequently people just post breaking or trending news stories, copy the article, and provide little to no insight or opinion. Meta is probably the biggest offender right now, though he's certainly not alone and he sometimes provides additional sources for consideration.

Only ten of the 30 threads on the current front page are not simply walls of text with a huge article quoted below a source link, and about 3 of those are basically the same as what I'm talking about, and roughly half of those ten are just shitposts.

I get that everyone wants activity, but maybe we should be trying to have real discussions instead of just posting flippant responses to whatever news is currently breaking?

its really annoying, but the alternative is having serious be flooded with more of CMD-esque posts.

It gets old with the same old people because we already know who leans what way, and then people wait around for someone like flee to write a five page essay in MLA format just to prove some point, and then it just turns into flinging around articles with different conclusions and the inevitable >news source, like >cnn or >fox. And then no one agrees because "truth is subjective." Until someone nitpicks some tiny detail that's not always relevant in the scheme of things.

I was gonna say that. It's kinda gay to open up a page and get hit with a copy of the article and nothing more. But like casp says, I'm sure most people's opinions are already known. It's either an echo chamber at this point or it's two people willing to butt heads for a while.

The irony in us becoming a community and group that knows one another is that we lose the ability to discuss certain avenues as we either can't be bothered to fight over trivial shit or we all just agree.

I don't like that I feel the need to make some trolling clickbait title just to get replies on this board.

News flash, folks: the news doesn't need to be shocking or rage-inducing to be worthy of your attention.

I have a giggle or five every time I see someone say something like "I don't follow the mainstream media because it's biased sensationalist trash," but then they keep falling for those same kinds of outrage culture techniques, employed by an alternative news source, and go on engaging in similar partisan hackery.

Maybe I should start frequenting this forum again, although I wouldn't change much by myself. I'm not a huge fan of discussing politics online, but Sep7agon is a bit different from reddit or facebook comments.
