Why is this list such shit garbage?

tbh it's basically just a list of foundational philosophy. Like, Plato's Republic? You don't just pick that up one day for casual reading; most of these are comprehensive, intense, and frankly boring books that are difficult to swallow for even professional philosophers.

I feel like this list is heavily lacking fiction, or anything but straight essays. Here's some modern fiction you might want to consider:

Hopscotch: A Novel - Julio Cortazar; Experimental writing style in the form of a novel which can be read in any order while maintaining a coherent plot.

The Innovators - Walter Isaacson; a detailing of several important figures in the technology world and their creative process.

When Breath Becomes Air - Paul Kalanithi; a novelized autobiography about a neurosurgeon's fight with lung cancer, up to his death before completing the book.

The Savage Detectives - Robert Bolano; just read it.

Before You Suffocate Your Own Fool Self - Danielle Evans; a short story debut collection. Fantastic characterization and storytelling.

A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain - Robert Olen Butler; short story collection about post-war Vietnam.

Drinking Coffee Elsewhere - ZZ Packer; Another debut story collection about the struggles of black people in America.

ALSO

Slade House; it's starts off about a little kid that gets high on Valium at a fancy party hosted by a creepy family. It's a series of interconnected short stories. It's incredible.
 

Also even a non-christian would acknowledge that only having anti-christian works in the religion category is pretty vapid. You're not even helping atheists or anyone else with that list given the fame of the authors.

That socialism section is cancerous as shit. Half of it is Noam Chomsky? wtf? And then Petr Kropotkin, who hardly even touches on socialism as much as just skipping straight to anarcho-communism. And then just the Communist Manifesto? Awful.
