I don't mind the third verse of our song because it's just an old tradition, but recruitment posters like that are wrong to me. The army is a multicultural organization that accommodates people of all religions, not a crusading Christian band of Templars.

It is, in a philosophical manner, but the poster doesn't directly relate to one religion is where I'm getting at. If you want to be technical on things, the Constitution states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religious beliefs , or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." so in technicality, this poster doesn't violate the Constitution. It only would if their was small print saying you had to be a certain religion to join

I live in an Army town, and I know a lot of Rangers, current and former.

This attitude is almost universal among those guys.

I see a lot of "infidel" bumper stickers, too.

This may come as a surprise to some of you guys, but soldiers are usually pretty ignorant, simple-minded guys. There are obviously exceptions, but grunts are, generally, not very smart. This goes all the way to the top-tier special forces guys as well, if any of you are familiar with the Chris Kyle/Jesse Ventura spat.

A good portion, maybe even the majority, of the Army sees our involvement in the middle east as a holy war, a new crusade against islam. I've spoken to some vets, including my former scoutmaster, and they all had very disturbing things to say about muslims.

The Army itself may try to present a face of multicultural secularism as a way to bring in recruits, but it is very much a christian-controlled institution, with all of the discrimination and favoritism that entails.

Unfortunately, I'm inclined to agree with you. This kind of attitude in the Guard though seems to be restricted to the old guys who were active duty first.
