I live in an Army town, and I know a lot of Rangers, current and former. This attitude is almost universal among those guys. I see a lot of "infidel" bumper stickers, too. This may come as a surprise to some of you guys, but soldiers are usually pretty ignorant, simple-minded guys. There are obviously exceptions, but grunts are, generally, not very smart. This goes all the way to the top-tier special forces guys as well, if any of you are familiar with the Chris Kyle/Jesse Ventura spat.A good portion, maybe even the majority, of the Army sees our involvement in the middle east as a holy war, a new crusade against islam. I've spoken to some vets, including my former scoutmaster, and they all had very disturbing things to say about muslims. The Army itself may try to present a face of multicultural secularism as a way to bring in recruits, but it is very much a christian-controlled institution, with all of the discrimination and favoritism that entails.
Yeah....being an atheist in the military is not great. Seems like things are slowly getting better tho. They're a few years behind the rest of the country.

This is very familiar with "For the King/Queen and Country" but it's also because the clash between West, and East also involves a long, unending religious war.
Difference is, Kings and Queens exist.
Certainly, but faith plays a similar role to belonging to someone who is higher, and more influential than you. Simpletons may get swayed into that kind of belief, especially under stress from an enemy who has a vastly different culture and beliefs.Quote from: XmasFox on December 01, 2014, 07:33:59 AMDifference is, Kings and Queens exist.
Which is why, sometimes, I have very brief moments were I support some sort of mass human cull.

If you or Max have ever spent a dollar bill then you both are hypocrites. "In God we Trust".

America is a a secular nation. No deity has any place in the military, school, government, or anywhere that isn't a private establishment or your home. End of story.
