Let's say you've got a cunt of a relative out there in the world doing the oh so cunty things that a bad relative does.

On the one hand, it gives an incentive to rise up. That's the complete opposite of what you want.

E.g. The mother who had her eldest son in jail for being a Chechen Rebel while the youngest was 6ft under after getting shot while an attempted arrest was made... because of his brother. He himself had done nothing. If you asked the mother would she support Russia, act as informant for other rebels... not fucking likely. She's probably hosting them and storing their arms at this rate.

Kinda creates a confirmation bias when you think about it.

True, but see also the overwhelming number of rebels (in general) fighting back. It may be a fraction of the population, but I wager it's higher as a result of civilian (relative) casualties.
