What is up with all these negative and largely unscientific posts in this thread?

What we have on our hands is a wildfire. It's already burned down swathes of forest and land, and is guaranteed to cause more damage in the future. This much is clear. So what do we do when faced with such a spreading fire? Do we throw our hands in the air because it's all fucked anyways? Do we shrug and say "yo, shit's on fire anyways so might as well pour some gasoline on it"? Do we tell our firemen to stop trying to contain the blaze and minimize the damage and fallout because it's a "fruitless endeavor", or quit their jobs and instead try to prepare for living in a blackened and burned down wasteland because it would be a better use of time and resources?

No, we listen to the experts and people who actually know what they're talking about (these scientists you explicitly said you weren't part of) and follow through on their pretty much universal consensus that looking after the environment, using green energy, lowering our emissions and so on is still actually a good idea with an enormous merit even today.

Especially when you consider that there's a pretty much universal scientific consensus and global move towards lower emissions (even China is going green and has been decreasing their emissions over the past few years), this whole attitude of "doesn't matter, might as well say fuck it all" is so illogical and backwards.

I'm not saying it's illogical. Why does everyone here seem to think I'm saying something I'm not?

I'm for reduction of greenhouse gases, I'm for combating climate change, I'm against this stupid policy change and props to the other countries that are actually trying to do something about it.

Thing is, I just don't have a lot of faith in humanity for collectively trying to pull it off. If we're to actually make any change we need a whole lot more than a handful of countries who are committed to the cause. It'd be great if everyone was on our wavelength about this, but most nations aren't, so I'm not going to give a solitary fuck if one meaningless policy gets scrapped, am I?
