Thoughts on the European Migrant crisis

Haven't seen a proper thread made on this yet oddly enough.

As usual, a lot of my Facebook friends are allowing their emotions to dictate the situation and resorting to knee jerk reactions. They all seem to think that letting in swaths of people unregulated will lead to little to no difficulties for some reason.

Jordan has allegedly taken in a substantial amount, but they've yet to be integrated into cities, and I suspect it won't be long until the refugee camps turn into ghettos. Chancellor Merkel has stated Germany intends to take in more, and David Cameron has plans for the UK to increase asylum for more refugees. The Eastern European countries seem very reluctant to integrate any refugees, with Hungary PM controversially stating "Muslims are not welcome."

Thoughts?

Should let them in. Historically, influxes of refugees have been beneficial to Britain. Although there should be some significant security infrastructure to screen and watch the ones we let in, lest any ISIS agents sneak in with them.

ISIS have reported that they're going to infiltrate using the refugee crisis, personally I think it's just scaremongering but nonetheless security should be top priority.

On a side note the humanity shown by Germany and Austria is actually surprising.

As a dumb American that doesn't have cable or a paper subscription anymore, can someone get me up to date on what is going on? Was there some sort of incident that is causing a large emigration, or has this been going on for quite a while and governments are just now starting to respond harshly?

That's what churches are supposed to do. They shouldn't have to be ordered to do it by the Pope, and let's see if all of them go through with it.

I can't really speak for the church in Europe, but here they house, feed, and support the vast majority of homeless people as well as low-income families in need. I imagine it's similar in Europe. The difference is that a lot of churches aren't really equipped to actually keep people on the premises for an indefinite amount of time; I think he's calling not only for the churches to step up support but for Catholics themselves to offer their homes in addition.

It's been happening for a couple of months now; between Assad and ISIS people are just getting the fuck out of Dodge. The more empathetic response from governments in the past few days--and the increased calls to do something--was in response to a widely-circulated image in the press of a dead three-year-old boy who washed up on a Turkish beach.

I never really saw that in my life. I've heard of some churches, but from what I know it's not as huge an effort as you're making it out to be.

I meant in my state, though when I lived in Phoenix it was very common, too. Every church I've been a part of has had a very active homeless ministry; if you're not part of the church, you're probably not going to hear about it. It's not exactly a headlining story for a church to feed homeless people.

I'm not too sure what the reason was to be honest, it was either the shitposting or personal attacks. I'll ask LC when he's next around because I think he carried that one out and my memory is trash lately.

It's not a ban ban as such, it can be repealed and iirc midget had his overturned after a little while. It's kind of a timeout box.
