World Economy has hit a big speed bump

China deploying troops and siege weapons on NK border

Submarines is SK waters

SK not backing down

NK deployed their landing craft

Negotiations don't seem to be working

Oh yes, this will be a very interesting week indeed. Thoughts on China and North Korea? There's absolutely zero chance of China helping North Korea's military, they have been allies in the past but now even China has threatened to take out Kim Jong if they cannot control him. South Korea and the U.S are too valuable to China.

China just treats North Korea as that one autistic child that they want to try and be friends with since everyone picks on them.  But in the event of North Korea launching an assault on South Korea with the U.S. joining in, China knows its long-term interests lie with helping the Americans and turning North Korea into a fucking wasteland.

Instead of turning North Korea into a wasteland China would be wise to allow South Korea to unify the peninsula and let them expand their economy.

This could get interest... fast.

Especially if Russia capitalizes on the opportunity and attempts a bigger takeover of some more former Soviet territories. I mean, we know Russia and China have been getting closer in the past few years, with Russia saying it was prepared to use nuclear weapons if the west had intervened in Ukraine.

Has anyone else noticed, recently, how the current situation seems to be like the that led to World War II? Russia = Germany trying to become more powerful after being stripped of much of it's economy and territory, with the west appeasing them for fear of starting another war, and America starting to lose power with China starting to gain it.

I say that, as someone who is of the belief that there will be a Third World War in my lifetime. Not necissarily nuclear, but certainly between superpowers. I hate sounding like a tinfoil hat, but I genuinely believe that there will be another major war within the next few decades.

There won't be a third world war. With Globalization, World Economy and trade. It's not in any country's best interest to start a large war, because everyone will lose.

Yet China and Russia hve both threatened the US with serious military and even nuclear action if they keep being meddling kids. And if the current stock market thing does become a new Great Depression, then there wouldn't be much of a world economy left to save. That said, I see something between the EU/ NATO and Russia as more likely, due to Russia actually having waged war recently for their former territories.

I'm a pessimist at heart, so forgive me if I sound like that. But I don't really see everything turning into sunshine and rainbows. Even if it wasn't politics, something like climate change could spark something big.

Not even close mate, stop buying into the fear mongering.

Unemployment rate is still way down, the economy is simply adjusting itself because of the over inflated Chinese market. The crash today has pretty much already stabilized and recovered in the U.S.

I was more using that as a hypothetical. I don;t actually think that's gonna happen. That comment about the petrol thing in the other thread was a joke.

I'll just stop now.

Chinese military equipment is a joke and Russia doesn't have the economy for a long term war with a world power. China also can't afford a war with any first world nation.

The Chinese military is kinda like the Imperial Guard from W40K: Shitty weapons, but lots and lots of meat to throw at the enemy. One shitty Chinese Assault Rifle may not do much damage, but 50 of them fucking will.
muh wwii russia effect

Except the Russians, after being given American and English arms, aircraft, and armored vehicles, developed their own technologies on par with that of their enemies. The SVT-40 functioned well and saw great success in its widespread use. The T-34-85 and IS-2 gave pzIV and Tiger crews a scare for once. The La-5 flew gracefully and the La-7 has a confirmed kill on an Me262.
That's what won the race to Berlin, not throwing hordes of conscripts with one rifle for every two men into pitched battles. China has nothing like this.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
The fact that China and Russia couldn't sustain a long term conventional war makes them all the more dangerous I think.

Why fight an enemy for the long term knowing you are likely to lose when you have nukes that render any superiority irrelevant?

But this is far from the topic at hand... NK is sabre-rattling against their cage for food again. China won't do shit if NK ever did anything, nor will the US apart from defensive measures, and SK won't go further than retalitory warnings.
