Switching Educational Concentration [School of Law]

[Posted in Serious because I want serious answers.]

I realized today that I like history and politics much more than the prospects of EHS. Obvious, being a lawyer works best with those two fields. For those of you who are studying law, what can you tell me about the field in terms of the education experience? I'm very interested in switching my concentration, and since I've only been doing general courses so far, I wouldn't be penalizing myself by changing from STEM. But I would like to hear from other people before I decide to go through with it.

Because while I'm interested in law myself, my university only offers a small pre-law program, which sucks. I'd have to transfer.

If you end up having to as well, just know that it's going to be very expensive. Still, I would always encourage you to pursue your interests rather than pursuing money, though, so, good on you for even considering this.

Funny enough, it actually has a MUCH higher (average) pay-off than my STEM major as well. I just am not sure if an interest/fascination is a strong enough motivator to put myself through law school. It's why I'd like someone like Flee to come in and give some perspective on the process, even though it will most certainly differ from mine (because European schools vs American schools).

Mind you, I don't intend to straight up transfer to a law school. I'll just get a B.A. in History or Political Science instead of Chemistry and start pre-law. If I change decide to change back, I still have all my credits for Chemistry still.

But it's still a big choice, I'd just like some comments from the peanut gallery here.

Currently on mobile and on the road, but I'll try writing something up later today. There's some pretty big differences between European and American schools, but I might be able to tell you about some things.

First though, is there any specific area within law that interests you particularly?

Administrative, criminal, and constitutional. Public law is cool, but I'm pretty sure that's more like a grouping of areas.

You're quite lucky you get to simply transfer, see I did stem related subjects in my last 2 years which means I can't transfer to courses like history, politics or economics. Which is annoying because I enjoy and could read about those subjects all day man

Thank you for the extra perspective. I've decided to go ahead and speak with an advisor to change my concentration during registration for next semester.

The Bar Exam is the only thing that really scares me about a law degree, but it's reassuring to know that I would have other choices to fall back on.
