And, if you want, let me go in depth on why the enforcement of fear for doing something wrong is just flat out stupid. For starters, you build passive people. People who are less likely to question the motives of authority when confronted with it, because authority is enforced. From an early age, we're told that authority is that. Authority. They dictate what's right and what's wrong.

But authority isn't always right. In fact, a lot of the times, they're outright stupid. And if you're unlucky, they're abusive of their power. Let me draw your attention to a movie called "Complience."

This movie is based off real life events in which a worker at a restaurant is called up by the police and told that they've been caught stealing and are to be detained until the police arrive. The girl and the restaurant staff reluctantly reply. And it gets worse from there. The staff members are asked to a strip search the girl for the stolen property. And they go through with it. And it gets worse and worse as the officer threatens them if they don't comply.

Eventually, it leads to full blown rape at the command of the officer and we find out that the officer is actually just some fucking dude playing that shit for a sick joke.

And this happened in over 24 different states across multiple restaurants. This is a real life thing. It's an extreme case, I know. But just remember. Nobody resisted the fake officer's commands because they were threatened by an authority figure. Ring a bell? Fear of punishment for doing something wrong. Except that nobody did anything wrong in those instances.

The enforcement of fear isn't neccessary. It's only neccessary because people don't know how to fucking raise their kids or teach them properly.

Also consider a situation like this:

You have a small child, maybe a toddler, and they like to play with the outlet, oven, wires, or whatever dangerous things. Due to their age and inability to understand right from wrong and dangers, they will keep doing these hints. If you sat down and told them to stop, they'll probably still do it due to the fact that they are small child who can't understand much. Sure, maybe taking away their toys or sending them to a corner may work, but do you want to take the chances of your small child accidentally harming himself when you aren't looking? With corporal punishment the child will learn quickly not to do something wrong due to the human's natural fear of pain. It is sad and hard to purposefully harm your child, but sometimes things have to be done for their safety.

Don't agree with this. Curiosity doesn't deserve punishment.

If I saw a kid trying to stick his finger in an outlet I'd slap his hand out the way or pull them backwards so they couldn't. If they bawl at me because they're not allowed to do what they want, I'll tell them it's dangerous and could kill them. Kid tries again, I'll bat their hand harder and sternly say "NO", then remove them from the area.

Or you could just cattle prod them and explain that's what sticking a finger in the electric outlet does.

I was thinking the hard way could work, but I don't wanna create irrational fears either.

I found out fire is hot the hard way... couldn't look a toaster in the eye for a while.

My parents showed me what electricity did by building up a big static charge in a balloon and then brushing it against me. It's one of those zaps that stings just a little bit. Little wee bastard me was like "Hey that hurts!"

And my parents were like:

"Yeah! The more of that there is in something when you touch it, the more you'll die!"

Not raise him to be that person in the first place.

If you forced my hand, I'd probably just let him go, and allow him to give himself a little life lesson. He's sixteen. Let him get fucked up, let him get hung over, let him go crazy--then when he comes home all sick, I'll ask him if he learned anything.

Because I can tell you right now--getting hit at that age by my parents during my "rebellious" years?

I would run away.

Because in my mind, I'm thinking, "What the fuck is he gonna do? Chase me?"

Solid answer. Nothing really stops him from doing this again tho. Everyone has been hungover, yet people still drink all the time.

But you would eventually come back. If you're 13-16 and run away, you aren't lasting more than 48 hours.

My point is that physical abuse would simply make me more resentful and rebellious--especially at that ripe age.

People are different, but you can rest assured that that's how most teens are gonna react--they're gonna rebel even more. They'll view you as an obstacle to overcome.

That's not universally true at all. Plenty of teenagers get through high school without getting into shit, and I can tell you from experience that hitting your son during an argument won't endear him to your principles.

Lol what.

I know how you have a higher drinking age at 21, but jesus christ. I'd probably tell him to eat rice and bread before drinking, not to mix drinks, not fuck anyone while he's pissed, drink a shit ton of water before going to bed and to be fucking quiet when he gets back home. If he doesn't heed my advice, the hangover will teach him and if he came home rowdy in the night I'll be banging pots at 9am and getting him to learn the consequences of irresponsible drinking.

"flaming nipple chops"-Your host, the man they call Ghost.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.
The fact that this thread is still going on is support that you all needed to be hit more as children.

Mind if I come over and beat the shit out of you because you're wrong?

I mean if it's okay to smack kids up a bit when they're wrong then technically as an adult I should have the right to go to anybody who's wrong and beat the ever living shit out of them to teach them a lesson.

Oh, but wait, I can't do that. Because that would count as assault. And somebody would probably press charges. Even if I didn't beat the shit out of them and just slapped them up a bit.

Funny, that one is.

Are you just talking out your ass or do we actually need to go over the different rights, protections, and allowances given to adults and minors?
I mean, might as well use that argument to let kids smoke and vote and fuck.

The right not to get beaten would fall under protection.

Who do you think needs more protection from physical abuse? A child or an adult?

Who do you think is more likely to get severely fucked up by said physical abuse? A child or an adult?

Who said anything about abuse? We have measures against abuse. CPS gets involved then.

Who said anything about abuse? We have measures against abuse. CPS gets involved then.

CPS ain't always there. They can't be watching 24/7.

On average every year, 3 million reports are made for child abuse in america, involving more than 6 million kids. On an average day in the states, 4-7 kids actually die from abuse or neglect. There's also been studies done on the undercounting of child abuse cases by state agencies, of which goes up to 50% or more.

6 million kids is five times the population of my fucking province. That's a lot of kids. And that's the shit that's being counted. What about all the unreported shit? And, just because a report is made to protective services, doesn't mean guardian angels will show up within seconds. In fact out of all the reports made, only a real small percentage of them get looked at, even.

And the bottom line on this, is that even if CPS do exist, they don't actively stop abuse cases from occurring in the first place. They can only ever show up after a case of abuse has been reported. So it comes down to the fucking parents to not be shitlords to their kids in the first place.

Hey PSU, how does it feel to know that your children secretly resent the fuck out of you?

How does it feel to be a loser and know you'll never even have the opportunity to have children?
My sides.

On topic: I was spanked as a child, neither of my parents are paedophiles either. I respect my dad. I think it worked. You guys should note that kids learn in different ways.
