Is it right that I have all of my belongings taken away due to the fact that I thought its not right to force someone to go to church?

Pretty much I said I didn't want to go to church to my mother, after saying this it got into an argument that pretty much ended up with me being grounded for about a couple months just because I thought it was not right. :s

Are you under 18? If so, Congrats! When your parents tell you to do something, so long as it's not illegal or threatening, then you listen and do it

I'm glad my parents where both very liberal in that regard, the last time I went to church, I was eight.

Yes, they have the right, but is it really right?
In the end it'll just make OP dislike Christianity and put a space between him and his parents.

Kinder you've missed the entire point of the thread.

It's not about whether it's legal or not, but whether it's right or not to force someone into an activity of religious nature against their will.

Nope. Not right at all.
Your parents probably want you to go to church and become a Christian. They have that set in their minds, so when you fight that it just infuriates them.

But its your life. You choose what to follow. I'm a christian but I won't force my kids(when I have them) to go to church. What kind of faith is one built out of being forced?

Nah. My parents made sure I went to church, my grandparents made sure my parents went to church. I also know several people that had to attend church and they're not distasteful of Christianity. It's not going to do a person harm to sit for an hour once a week and listen to a person talk. Children are forced to attend school and there isn't a mass national drop-out rate because of it

Yeeeah.......I don't support that.
People shouldn't be forced to believe in God. That's why its called a "personal relationship with God".

You can be on fire and love God all day, but your experience and relationship isn't mine. I have to make my own path, have my own walk with God.

People who force this are doing more harm than good really.

Nobody I know enjoyed attending church/bible studies as a child; most were dragged to it by their parents. Only one person that I know below the age of 50 attends church regularly, and most of the people I know say that they're Christians.
I'm sure there's a connection here and a better way to explain it, but I'm in another cycle of sleep related issues and can't fully put this argument into the words I need.

....this scares me

I've never been to Pentecostal churches until I joined my friend's worship team.
Let's just say the "speaking in tongues" both terrified me, and annoyed me while playing guitar.

If I understand what I'm reading in the bible, speaking in tongues has no place in church unless there is an "interpreter". There never is one, ironically. It's always just people running amok and yelling.

And when you are trying to get int the music and really have your own worship time, some obnoxious old lady yelling is..........just too much. I don't speak in tongues. Not my thing.  It isn't necessary.

after saying this it got into an argument that pretty much ended up with me being grounded for about a couple months just because I thought it was not right. :s

So you politely told her you don't want to go to church, and suddenly you're grounded for two months and have your possessions demolished? Or you started an argument with your folks that was likely disrespectful and childish and were subsequently punished? Because I really doubt it's the former, and that this is anywhere close to the full story.

I actually did ask in a polite way, then my mother raised her voice at me and said "If you don't go, your going to hell" which actually struck a nerve and...pretty much, it was a disagreement about how the bible was a book written by what the disciples thought was right and that missing one day of church would not mean i'm going to hell :/

It's not right at all, but you can't reason/argue with a godbotherer.

If you are unfortunate enough to be stuck with a zealot as a parent, it's better to just go along with it until you can leave on your own terms. It's really the best way to ensure someone never goes to church again in their life, forcing them to go on pain of punishment. Those who think for themselves that is.

I have no problem with people who want to go to church and pray, it's the ones who insist on forcing others to go along with them that are tiresome.
