So #gamergate has been pretty much drowning the gaming industry in bullshit recently and I was interested in what the Sep7agon community thought about it. If you are for or against it?. And If the admins deem this as not serious then by all means move it but I honestly think a group of people who send rape threats to random female persons in the gaming industry completely disgusting.

I think they're pretty much justified when the gaming press literally announced their identity as "null and void" and that they didn't exist anymore. But whatever, fighting for journalistic integrity is just shitting up the gaming sphere right?

The anti Gamergate side have yet to prove any causal link between harassers and Gamergate. All harassers we've seen have been rogue twitter accounts. Once again, disingenuously twisting the narrative.

There's no causal link between harassment and gamergate(even as a supporter that name sucks).

It's a leaderless movement so even if it could be proven that people within gamergate were doing that shit it doesn't make the movement itself illegitimate.

Meanwhile we have people like Megaphone Alexander threatening to cause people that come out in support to lose their jobs.

I'm not entirely sure what is going on.

If it's regarding games journalism, frankly I never followed them because it wasn't content I enjoyed reading, and in recent times has been rife with corruption with publishers and devs bribing reviewers to improve game reviews. (Case in point is JackFrags/LevelCap and several others regarding BF4. They got press release material, tested demos and shit and bonus crap, and in return the played down negatives of the game and exploded with positives). It never seemed it was giving a review or find an underlying theme or discuss anything, unless it was a ploy to sell it to you. I don't enjoy reading advertisements and blatant propaganda.

I keep hearing about some sort of sexism angle on it and don't really know much about it or care.

I stopped keeping up with it after the second week. At first I was up in arms about it, but then I realized that the journalists and publications involved weren't ones I went to for opinion/news to begin with.

I could probably write a whole paper on this issue, but long story short, yeah I support it.

When members gaming press are writing articles like "Gamers are dead", simply because they dared to ask for less collusion between the people that make games, and people who review them, then there's clearly a severe lack ethics that needs to be addressed.

No one has yet to prove that Gamergate is linked with harassment. Also, it's not even about Zoe Quinn anymore. She was relevant for about two weeks before the gaming press decided to pull their little collusion stunt. At this point she's being used as a victim for the anti gamergate side to refer to.
