Should prostitution be decriminalized?

Do you think that prostitution should be a legal, regulated profession and that prostitutes shouldn't be regarded as criminals under the law?

No, however I don't think prostitutes should be charged with a crime, rather they should be given help. Rehabilitative justice is something that is desperately necessary and lacking in modern society. Currently, prostitution laws evoke a cycle of abuse, stemming from sex workers' inability to leave their profession because of arrest records and psychological trauma.

Legal prostitution removes that barrier, which I wholeheartedly support. But it's also true that legal prostitution does nothing to protect women from abuse. I'm not sure how you can see a study that demonstrates nearly 70% of legal sex workers have PTSD, or more than half are victims of abuse by their customers and still support any form of prostitution. Pimps and johns are the criminals, and the prostitutes (men or women) are the victims, and legal prostitution institutionalizes abuse, rape, and violence against men and women alike.

If I remember enough from those big Army powerpoints that I kind of pay attention to halfheatedly, legal brothels are still ripe centers of attraction for human trafficking and sexual/regular physical abuse.

We talked about this the other day in one of my classes. I don't see any problem with it as long as everything is safe. My teacher showed us a video of a place that was basically a brothel but everything was regulated and safe. The "costumers" paid a receptionist rather than paying the employees directly, every male that went there had to use a condom, and they even had a doctor on site to preform regular check ups and all that.

It's illegal now yet there is still rampant abuse and trafficking. Even without regulations decriminalizing it would only reduce the amount of abuse already actually happening since the women would then be able to get help from the police or public services without being arrested
